At Liverpool Nursery, our literacy program is designed to build a strong foundation in reading, writing, and communication skills. We use a structured and systematic approach, teaching children to recognize letter sounds and blend them together to form words. This method aligns with the higher standards of the new curriculum and includes effective assessments that support and accelerate each child’s literacy progress.

Children are provided with ample opportunities to develop their reading skills through engaging activities such as jigsaws, threading, matching, and word recognition games. These activities build essential pre-reading skills, boosting children’s confidence and fostering a love for books.

We encourage early writing in a variety of creative and developmentally appropriate ways. Recognizing that every child learns differently, we adapt our teaching to meet individual needs, offering a wide range of marking and etching tools like pencils, pens, and crayons. Sand trays and painting activities are regularly available to develop hand control, hand-eye coordination, and dexterity—key elements for writing readiness. We believe that consistent practice helps children establish good habits, ultimately preparing them to develop a clear, legible handwriting style for their future school experiences.
